A Very Happy Birthday, Your Majesty!

Our nation’s Queen Elizabeth II will celebrate her 90th birthday in 2016 with, what else, a birthday party fit for a queen!

All around Great Britain the stops are being pulled out to create a 90-minute multimedia event commemorating "a life well lived". The party staged at Windsor Castle just outside London will include 900 horses and more than 1,500 participants from around the United Kingdom, and the rest of the world, who will take part in the retrospective.

Although she was actually born on April 21, the official birthday of Queen Elizabeth II is celebrated each year in the UK on a weekend in June for purely practical reasons. The day usually, but not always, presents more acceptable weather for the public celebration and party.

However, for 2016 the party is being brought forward a month and for this year it’s planned to be celebrated over four days commencing on Thursday, May 12th and running through to Sunday, May 15th 2016.

The festivities this year will include a look back at her birth and early years, her life through World War II, her marriage and family, and her more than 60-year reign as the world's longest-reigning monarch.

Performers for the celebrations will come from a number of countries including Oman, Chile, New Zealand, Canada, Fiji, Australia, Azerbaijan as well as the UK. And with more than a nod to tradition, this year’s 90th birthday celebration will also include The Queen’s Mounted Troops and more than 100 pipers.

If you're not in town on the big day, or you haven’t yet received your personal invitation, the national broadcaster in the UK, the BBC, traditionally bring to both TV and radio all or part of Her Majesty’s birthday celebrations and we sure that the schedules will be packed with plenty of the fun as well as the splendour of the event.

And as this is a time of national pride, what better excuse or opportunity could there be for another themed costume party so let’s add a date to our summer of fun and join in with the national party. In other blogs we have discussed in depth the steps and processes involved in creating the perfect party and these ideas can be very easily adapted to suit a British theme. At Karnival Costumes we’ve tons of British themed costumes, party goods, decorations and party goods.

Everyone loves the opportunity to get into some fancy dress and the globally recognised event that is Trooping of the Colour offers a perfect time to buy something new for your costumes collection so check out the costumes and accessories that we have for in our national country fancy dress, you’ll find plenty to choose from.
