Organising a Summer Party
Summer is on its way and we're already being told its going to be a warm one. For those who can't wait for the traditional round of Halloween parties to satisfy the urge to dress up and pretend to be someone else, why not indulge yourself by staging a hot summer fancy dress party..?
A summer garden BBQ party is a great way to entertain friends and family with long refreshing drinks topped with lashings of ice, or a cool beer. For young and old just the thought of a well cooked burger is enough to get the invites flowing in all directions. Now why not add another dimension to the gathering by giving the event a summer theme and making it a summer costume party..?
There are a few tips and ideas that can help with the organisation of this; Firstly, pick a theme. You already know what you like and you probably have some idea of what your friends and family are interested in. It is important to take this information into account as if people are attracted to the theme they will be more inclined to come in costume. If you are inviting a lot of people for the first time, pick a theme that will allow everyone to play a part and be comfortable; this would imply a generic theme rather than specific, say 'desert island' rather than 'Peter Pan' -- you don't want 20 Peter Pans or Captain Hooks turning up and all being embarrassed.
So what makes a good summer costume party theme..? Assuming that the weather will be warm, you will want a theme where the costumes, whether made, bought or hired will be reasonably light comfortable to wear. A few ideas would be; Beach Party, Hawaiian Luau, Roman Toga or Mardi-Gras themed parties. These themes also have the advantage of being able to be created cheaply and this maybe something you would want to take into consideration.
If you want to, you can be more creative in the selection of a theme and create the most talked about summer costume party of the year, then you need to go back to the one of the first points we discussed. You will need to understand well the personalities of your guest list. Understanding personalities will allow you to determine just how zany you can be in selecting a theme tailored specifically to them.
These are great summer party themes and you should be able to find a huge selection of party decorations to allow you to bring the whole party area to life. If possible try and select buffet food and refreshments also in keeping the theme. This may be more work for the hosts but it's these finishing touches that make a summer costume party truly memorable. If you can't get themed party decorations get plenty of balloons and streamers and go for a simple but colourful decoration theme.
Before sending out your invitations create a few ideas for costumes within the theme and either include these with the invitation or keep them safe by the phone so that when guests call for ides you have some readily available to hand.
