Clown Logo of Karnival Costumes your Halloween specialists for Fancy Dress and Costume AccessoriesAs it be approaching the official Talk Like a Pirate Day in September, it be time to learn how to talk like ye be a true pirate, so avast there and shiver me timbers. Arrrgh, now you might just be a‘wundering just how a scallywag like yeself begins to talk like a proper pirate!

Well matey it be simple like.  The first rule and probably the most important one like, is to for ye to say “ye” rather than “you” and either starting or finishing the odd sentence with “Arrghh” also adds to the authenticity.  The work “like” be also a good way to conclude the occasional sentence.

These rules work for most scallywags when ye can add in a few pirate sounding words for good measure. On the day, it’s almost obligatory for ye to call women “wenches” while ye can all men “matey”, “me bucko” or “me scallywag” as ye wish, arrrgh.

Once ye ‘ave mastered basic pirate speak, ye can consider adding some useful phrases which will come in useful during the day or ye rum swilling party!

1.         Walk the plank you scallywag and join the rest of ye crew in Davy Jones' Locker
2.         Avast there, get ye swabbing the poop deck lest ye whipped like a dog
3.         The wench or the booty or the wench with the booty!
4.         Surrrrrender the booty!
5.         Spit it out mate! Me parrot's a better talker than ye.
6.         Ye can swab the poop deck, but ye can't poop on the swab deck.
7.         Hang 'im from the yardarm
8.         Splice the mainbrace maties!

And be ye the joker in the pack, then this is the line ye be lookin’ for;

Brwaack! Polly want a cracker? … Oh, hang on. That’s Talk Like a PARROT Day!

And there be some successful pirate pickup lines that ye can use, here’s just a sample;

1.          Let's get together and haul some keel.
2.          Yes, that is a hornpipe in my pocket and I am happy to see you
3.          That’s the finest pirate booty I’ve ever laid eyes on

Talk Like a Pirate Day every September 19Arrgh, there be plenty of fun to be had on Talk like a Pirate Day all ye needs to do is to think pirate and you’ll be dishing out 100 lashes with ye cat-o-nine-tails to the rest of ye scurvy crew.  And what be the point of ye talking like a pirate if ye don’t look like one?

Now matey, pirate costumes have existed from the time of the pirates themselves only they didn’t call them costumes, they called them clothes! Swashbuckling pirates should never be seen without a fancy hat and it’s the same with pirate costumes today, they all look better for the addition of a hat, with our without a skull and crossed bones bandana underneath. And remember, nothing says pirate costume like a big ‘ol pirate captain’s hat either smart with feather or old and crumpled like ol’ Jack Sparra.

And asides a hat, no pirate costume be complete without big black boots, eye patch, earring, pistol and yur’ cutlass fighting weapon. Add a parrot and your pirate costume will make ye the big noise at ant gathering of ol’ salty seadogs.
And if ye be shopping at Karnival Costumes, ye knows that yur find the biggest, brightest and most exciting collection of pirate costumes and pirate accessories this ‘ere side of Davey Jones’ own locker room! Arrgh, the point of this is, why go only part of the way with a simple pirate costume when you can find a whole treasure trove (and yes, we have treasure and the chests in which to keep it) of options and accessories to go with it? And to make sure that the whole family can celebrate Talk Like A Pirate together, make sure that all ye scoundrels have costumes.

And there be no need to stop at a pairate costume, why not give your whole house a pirate theme for the day with pirate flags and bunting and lots of other pirate decorations and even tableware to bring that look of either a desert island theme or a Caribbean grog swilling inn ashore any pirate haven!
