Girls Wartime Evacuee Costume

To ensure the safety of a generation of almost a million schoolchildren, a decision was taken to evacuate them from the prime bombing targets of the major cities in the UK. This mass exodus saw trains full of children, some excited some fearful heading off to the relative safety of the countryside. Our girl's wartime costume is sure to bring back a mixture of memories to those old enough to have experienced this massive resettlement. From a huge collection of childrens fancy dress and WWII costumes, our girls wartime evacuee costume comprises of a long sleeved dark blue dress coat which features a nipped waistline and a button fastening to the front. The dress has a high neckline with a turnover collar line. The most evocative aspect of the costume if the buff coloured label attached to the right hand side of the collar. This children's wartime fancy dress is completed with a green beret styled hat and an iconic gas mask bag which should be worn across the shoulders at all times and was something that everyone had with them wherever they went. This is a stylised costume and is ideal for school productions and book weeks.
