Although The Doctor has a number of enemies the main protagonists are the Daleks and the Cybermen with the appearance of either sending legions of children to hide behind the sofa whilst willing The Doctor and his companion of that series, on to victory. Originally only shown on British TV, since the change in status of the show and the application of modern production techniques, not only has its popularity in Britain increased dramatically but it now registers as an International success with a huge fan base of “Whovians”.
With this surge in popularity and instant recognition of the Tardis, the Daleks and the Cybermen, Doctor Who has become a great choice for a costume party – and not only with the children. So if you or someone you know is a big fan of this show, this blog will help you throw an amazing Doctor Who party whether it’s for a birthday or simply just a party share with friends and watch the shows.
Party Invitations
The easiest party invitation for your Doctor Who Party would be plain black card cutouts of your favourite Doctor Who silhouette. Select one of the instantly recognisable shapes, the Tardis, Dalek or Cyberman and then trace round it onto the card. If you trace around it on folded card you will be able to make a folded invite, otherwise a single sheet will do. Use a metallic silver or gold pen – or even a chalk pencil – to write out your invites and don’t forget to tell people to dress up if its to be a costume party. If you would rather buy-in the artwork for your invites, you’ll find a large selection of custom Doctor Who invitations on Etsy and all of these can be customised with your own party information. Party Decorations
Star Cutouts have a range of large cardboard decorations and these are proving to be a very popular party item as not only do they give a great look to your party area but you can also use them as an amazing photo background for your guests giving you an instant photo booth. With most mobile phones having a built in camera, it’s very easy to take and then upload images of your party to social media sites providing you – and the rest of the world – a permanent memento of the night The Doctor saved the world (again!).
These decorations, supplied flat are made from heavy duty cardboard and can be easily assembled and then taken apart for easy storage. Life-sized, they are available in a complete range of characters including the Doctor, Tardis, Davros, Weeping Angel, Daleks, Cyberman and K-9 the Doctor’s robotic dog.
Along with plenty of alien fancy dress costumes you’ll also a range of dressing up outfits specifically licensed to the Doctor Who theme. We would always recommend that either the party giver or the guest of honour be given the privilege of being The Doctor but with so many space monster costumes to choose from, and for some you may even be able to reuse your Halloween outfit – think Weeping Angel. At Karnival Costumes we have what you need.
Party Food and Celebration Cakes
For either a children’s or adult’s Dr Who party we would suggest that a simple finger buffet would be perfect although you could give things a lift by including some Cybermen cutouts or Dalek cupcake toppers. In addition to the normal buffet foods, we found the following centerpiece cakes which will definitely wow guests – and look out for the excellent images that Cute Sweet Things created using Photoshop – amazing!
