Oktoberfest - a true Global Phenomenon

Clown Logo of Karnival Costumes your Halloween specialists for Fancy Dress and Costume AccessoriesAs we move toward the latter stages of the year, we approach one of the biggest - and we mean on a global scale - seasonal festivals. Oktoberfest. From it's humble beginnings over 200 hundred years ago when it started as a Wedding Party, it's grown into a true global phenomenon.
It all started over 200 years ago with the marriage of Princess Therese of Saxony-Hildburghausen to Prince Louis of Bayer and the original celebrations were actually part of the wedding feast. Since then, Oktoberfest has come a long way to a point where today, Oktoberfest is a huge festival celebrated on a global scale. The original remains firmly rooted at the Munich Oktoberfest, but the format is widely copied, and with imitation being the best form of flattery, there are now many copies of the best Bavarian folk festival spread around the globe.

Recent figures identified that there are now more than 2,000 official Oktoberfest celebrations in total with genuinely eye-watering numbers of people attending. And given that these are annual events, the popularity of the simple pleasure of mixing music and beer in a social setting is proving ever more successful. Here are ten of the largest Oktoberfest celebrations from around the world:
Oktoberfest Munich, Germany (over 6 million visitors)
Oktoberfest Qingdao, China (3 million visitors)
Oktoberfest Kitchener-Waterloo, Canada (700,000 visitors)
Oktoberfest Blumenau, Brazil (600,000 visitors)
Oktoberfest Cincinnati, USA (500,000 visitors)
Oktoberfest Frankenmuth, USA (about 100,000 visitors)
Oktoberfest Beijing, China (just under 100,000 visitors)
Oktoberfest Zurich, Switzerland (40,000 visitors)
Oktoberfest St. Louis, USA (20,000 visitors)
Oktoberfest Windhoek, Africa (1,400 visitors)
It’s even been reported that Oktoberfest celebrations have been started as far as Russia and Australia so wherever you are in the world around during September/October, with the ever expanding popularity of Oktoberfest check to see if there’s an event being organised near you.
With the global spread of Oktoberfest, the traditional Bavarian culture and customs are being brought to everyone! Whether it’s the traditional Oktoberfest costumes; traditional lederhosen and dirndl costumes, the Bavarian beer and food or even the traditional Oktoberfest beer festival attractions such as rolling beer barrels, dachshund races, fun-fair attractions or Oktoberfest costume parades there is something for everyone. And of course no Oktoberfest beer festival would be complete without the Oktoberfest music, traditional German brass band oompah music that sets the feet tapping and the Oktoberfest girls’ dirndls swaying. What would Oktoberfest be without these!
Although these organised events are fun and offer you all of the attractions, there are plenty of Oktoberfest party products available that’ll allow you to create the atmosphere at your own beer festival.
