Ghoulish Frozen Hands
One of our all time favourites and a must for any Halloween party where there will be buffet style refreshments or punch bowl. As they are frozen, they can be made well in advance and stored until required.

What you need:
  • Large size latex or kitchen prep gloves (one required per mould)
  • Food colours
  • Support for glove(s). Although this is optional, using a support with a diameter large enough that it allows the glove to fit inside with the wrist section turned over the support to grip it, will enable you to get a bigger piece. We use a tall cylinder vase.
What you need to do:
  • If using a support, fit the glove into it
  • Mix up a solution of water and dye for the colour required or alternatively leave it clear.
  • Fill the latex glove with water - clear or coloured.
  • If you are not using a support, you will need to tie the glove off – like a balloon, although this will make the overall hand smaller.
  • Freeze overnight or for as long as it takes.
  • You have an option of either gently removing the ice hand from the glove, it may be easier to cut it off rather than peel it off which may break the fingers. Alternatively, it can be left complete for a truly gruesome effect as the ice melts and the hand shrivels and shrinks.
  • Use the 'Hands' in punchbowls or in your ice buckets and they look super on your refreshment tables holding items in the upturned palm. For this effect you will need to experiment to create a slight curl inwards of the fingers.
  • To make a suitable Halloween Punch for your freaky hand to float in mix equal parts of cranberry juice, apple juice and ginger ale to create a Screaming Red Punch which will have a little bite but what else would you expect around Halloween?
Freaky Eyeballs
This is a nice add to any Halloween buffet table and sure to get people talking.  Simple to prepare but very effective. Your own Halloween guest direct from the graveyard....

What you need – to make 12 eyeballs:
  • 6 large eggs – hardboiled and shelled
  • Black olives - stuffed
  • Tomato paste for veining
  • Cocktail Stick for veining
What you need to do:
  • Halve each of the eggs
  • Place some tomato paste onto a saucer and using the tip of the cocktail stick dipped into the paste create some thin lines from the middle of the yoke to the start of the white.
  • Half the olives and place each half in the centre of the yolk to create the iris.
  • Present these eyeballs in a bed of lettuce interspersed with some plastic worms or for something even more disgusting some rubber maggots.
Bloodshot Eyeballs (alternative Freaky Eyeballs Idea)
Freaky Eggs from a blog post from Karnival Costumes your fancy dress specialists
This is a slightly more involved process but the results are always unique and it can be scaled up allowing the making of many more eyeballs in a quicker time.  The result is similar to Freaky Eyeballs and they work well mixed together and all your guests will definitely look twice!

What you need – to make 12 eyeballs:
  • 6 eggs
  • 3 tablespoons mayonnaise
  • 1/2 teaspoon mustard powder to taste
  • Salt/Pepper to taste
  • Red/Green /Blue food colouring
  • Black olives (stuffed)
What you need to do:
  • Hardboil the eggs
  • Remove from the heat and when cooled gently crack the shell – but do not remove it
  • Place the cracked eggs back in the water with ample red food colouring.  Let your eggs soak in the red dye for a minimum of half an hour.
  • Remove all the egg shell, if it has worked correctly, the red dye should have seeped through the cracks and left bloodshot veins all over the egg.
  • Cut in half lengthways; carefully remove the yolks into another bowl.
  • Mash the yolks adding mayonnaise with mustard powder, salt and pepper to taste. Add green or blue food colouring to create the colour of the eye and mix well.
  • Fill the egg whites shells with the mixture and top each with half a black olive.
  • Present these eyeballs in a bed of lettuce interspersed with some plastic worms or for something even more disgusting some rubber maggots and flies.

Invite a Spooky Dinner Guest
Can you ever have enough people around your dinner table? Well we’ve a fun and quick idea that allows you to add another. A special guest who’s come direct from your Halloween graveyard....

What you need:
  • Some spider's cobweb material – colour of your choice
  • Selection of small plastic spiders and other ghoulish creatures
  • Chair
  • Clear fishing line

What you need to do:
  • Use the fishing line to attach your 3D skeleton to a chair in an upright sitting position
  • Gently ease out the spider's web material inside the ribcage, around skull using the mouth and eye sockets and if possible down to the table setting
  • Place the spiders and creatures in the cobwebs ensuring that some appear to be coming through both the mouth and eye sockets. For a truly gruesome look which sure to put people off, use some glow in the dark maggots in the eyeballs for that truly gross out effect!
  • For the ambitious, there are a couple of added treats you can add…
    • Add an extra length of thin clear fishing line to one of the wrists of your skeleton and use this as odd occasions to make your guest come to life – make the movements small, this creates a better impact.
    • Prepare an aged place setting for your guest which should look grubby and aged and then add some more finely stretch cobweb material. This will make it look like both the skeleton and the table setting have aged in place undisturbed – until now that is!
Graveyard Buffet Table
A scary buffet table that will really help you set the scene for your Halloween party. Where else would you want to serve your refreshments other than in the middle of a graveyard?

What you need:
  • Black sheet or spooky tablecloth roll for your buffet table
  • A life size (6ft) 3D skeleton
  • Spider's cobweb material – colour of your choice
  • Selection of small plastic spiders and other ghoulish creatures
  • Fine clear fishing line
  • Glue gun
What you need to do:
  • Layout the black cloth, table roll or sheet covering your buffet table
  • Gently stretch the spider's cobweb material along the front and sides of the table and stretch it down to the floor – you may need to use the glue gun here
  • Add some of the siders and creatures to the cobweb
  • Assemble and locate the cardboard coffin on your buffet table
  • With the top half lid open, sit the 3D skeleton upright so that its body is visible. You may need to add some additional supporting material beneath it to achieve the desired effect, if you do, we would suggest that you cover it with some fabric to make it look like the lining of the coffin. You may need to use the glue gun to complete this.
  • Add spider's cobweb material inside the ribcage and around skull - mouth and eye sockets. For a truly gruesome look which sure to put people off, use some glow in the dark maggots in the eyeballs for that truly gross out effect.
  • Use any remaining cobweb material to run from the edges of the coffin to the table and add any remaining creatures.
  • Arrange your buffet around the coffin and delight in look on your guests faces.
So if you're planning to hold your own Halloween buffet party we hope that you get to use some of these ideas and don't forget to send us some pictures of your party table. At Karnival Costumes we have all of the products you'll need to make yours the perfect party night!
