Clown Logo from Karnival Costumes your fancy dress specialistsAs we prepare ourselves for the upcoming Halloween season, we thought we’d take a closer look at some of the major Costume themes in a little more detail.  In this blog, we’ll take a look at one of the most popular of Halloween costume themes in recent years and one that is sure to remain amongst the most eagerly sought after;

Saw Costumes

A fairly recent horror movie franchise, launch in 2004 this was an instant hit with gorefest lovers worldwide. Like so many other box office successes, the Saw movies usually receive less than favourable reviews from the press and critics yet still the franchise has gone from strength to strength. The Saw movies, along with similar gorefest treats like Hostel, created a new film genre, Torture Porn and although the makers of Saw argue with this on the grounds that it’s not torture when the character of Saw believes that the survivors will be stronger for the experience, it remains what many consider to be one of the leading exponents of the genre.

The Saw Movie franchise itself revolves around the fictional character of John Kramer, also called the "Jigsaw Killer" or more simply "Jigsaw". From his brief introduction in the original 2004 Saw movie, his character has been developed more fully through Saw II. Rather than killing his victims outright, Kramer, as Jigsaw, traps them in situations that he calls his tests or games designed to see if they have the will to live through his physical or psychological torture.

Despite the fact that John Kramer was murdered in Saw III, the films continue to focus on the posthumous influence of the Jigsaw Killer and his apprentices further exploring and developing his character via the use of flashbacks.

And with the masks, you have the option of creating your own version of the costume.  In addition, at Karnival Costumes we have a range of both fully licensed Saw costume accessories as well as lots of body parts, props and blood liquids and gels to complete your own gorefest.

From our range of Saw costumes, there are two that are stand out Halloween favourites; the first is Billy the Puppet, a ventriloquist doll-type character in a suit and bow tie which Jigsaw uses to communicate and terrorise his victims. Complete with realistic mask, you won’t need Jigsaw’s electronics genius to communicate with your victims. This is available in both standard and deluxe versions.  The mask is full face and when worn it will restrict your ability to eat and drink, so if you’re watching your weight and are also the nominated driver for the night, this is perfection!

The other main character costume is also available in both standard and deluxe versions as well as being available in similar styles. This is Pig-Head, with an outfit based on around a black hooded robe worn with a pigs-head mask which reflects the ravages of the cancerous decay of the disease endured by Jigsaw. This is the outfit adopted as a disguise by Jigsaws accomplices.
