The Texas Chainsaw Massacre celebrates 40 goryest years!

Clown Logo of Karnival Costumes your Halloween specialists for Fancy Dress and Costume AccessoriesWhen something reaches its 40th anniversary and it’s something that is still talked about, enjoyed and copied then you just know it’s good. Well, this October (2014) celebrates the fact that it was 40 years ago when "The Texas Chainsaw Massacre" was first shown to paying movie audiences. It was Oct 1, 1974 when Tobe Hooper saw the launch of his low-budget horror flick shock audiences so much that it was widely reported that, when it was first released people were walking out during the show, which is strange as the movie is nowhere near as gory as the title suggests.
The movie was based on and inspired by the story of serial killer Ed Gein and was originally going to be released under the title “Headcheese” or just “Leatherface”. Interestingly, most of the truly gory parts were left on the editing room floor as it was hoped that it could get a released with a PG rating but, and some would say thankfully, this wasn’t achieved and the film has gone on top become both a cult classic as well a popular rerun with the general movie goers.
A true slasher movie “The Texas Chainsaw Massacre” has seen a few sequels and remakes since its 1974 release and it is notable as being the inspiration for a number of other horror movies which were given the ‘Indie’ tag not least of these being “Night of the Living Dead”.
There are a few reported facts that’ll win you plenty of points on your next quiz night! Here’s a couple; in some scenes in the movie, actress Marilyn Burns wasn’t always using theatrical blood fluid she was actually bleeding! Another is that several of the skeletons shown and used in the movie were actually real human bones. A couple of facts that’ll allow you to be the know it all when you either watch the movie with friends or when you host your own "The Texas Chainsaw Massacre" costume party which will be perfect this Halloween!
