Celebrate World Beard Day every September

Yes it’s true, there is a day set aside so that men, and women, around the globe can honour the beard. And that special time of year is almost on us again! World Beard Day allows bearded men everywhere to enjoy the adoration of others as they indulge in a whole day of well-deserved joyous festivities, leisure and relaxation. Okay, we really want to know what they get up to on all the other days of the year.
World Beard Day is held on the first Saturday in September. On World Beard Day, it is customary for the bearded members of a family to relax and partake in no jobs or chores. The beardless members of the family traditionally show their support by waiting on the bearded hand and foot. World Beard Day is all about promoting and elevating the global status of the beard. Whilst many countries and cities practice World Beard Day customs specific to their own region, shaving on World Beard Day is universally considered to be highly disrespectful to others of the faith.
According to the organising committee, they say that you will be able to find, and join in with hirsute men and women around the world who will be holding thousands of World Beard Day events in bars, backyards, lounge rooms, beaches, parks and public squares.
Beard-appreciators on every continent are encouraged to organise their own World Beard Day event, which can be as simple as inviting a few bearded friends, neighbours or strangers over to your house for a day of fun, celebration and unity (between bearded people).Karnival Costumes huge collection of false beards
At Karnival Costumes we just love the idea of a themed party and we think it’s unfair of our hirsute brothers and sisters to try and exclude us simply because we’re clean shaven. Well, here’s the trick, with our huge collection of false beards and moustaches all of us can become one of the hairy clan and then we too can join in the fun of World Beard Day.
And what a day it looks like being. The organizing committee have left no party idea go to waste and their list of ‘WHAT TO DO ON WORLD BEARD DAY’ which they’ve sub-titled, ‘a helpful list of things you can do to make this the greatest World Beard Day ever’ includes;
Breaking Bread with Bearded Brethren; where they suggest getting together with other like-minded people and just enjoying their company. Hey we’re all for that, soubnds like fun at any time of the year!
Have a Fire; now this is a little out of left field for most of us but it’s in their list so, if local laws permit, build a fire (or if you prefer have some beardless people build you a fire) and then sit around the fire and enjoy having a beard and living in a golden age of beardedness. Er…..?
Change a Tyre; absolutely bonkers but as they say, changing it will give some satisfaction that you have the life skills to do it.  Now, if you don’t have the life skills, don’t try this in the middle of a forest! We can only conclude, that they are saying that in the time it takes to grow a beard, you’ll have had a flat and learned how to change it.  As we said at the start, bonkers but strangely and in a perverse way it actually sounds like an interesting diversion in a crazy way!
In addition the organising committee has also come up with some World Beard Day Games and Events that you might want to try out. According to them, World Beard Day events often feature various games and events. Feel free to create your own event, or choose from any of the following customary World Beard Day Games:
False Pirate Beard in Blond available at Karnival Costumes
- All-bearded Human Pyramid - current record 15
- Clean Chin Darts; just stick a picture of your least favourite beardless individual onto the dart board and throw darts at his face
- World Beard Day Pinata; fill a paper mache beardless guy with treats, hang him from a tree, give the guy with the biggest beard a club and tell him to get clubbin’!
- Pin-the-beard-on-the-guy; by far the easiest, least-challenging World Beard Day game – no blindfold required. Problem with this one is that we’re sure that they actually mean ‘pinning’ a beard on the first person you meet!
World Beard Day Sports
If you haven’t already had enough fun (?) then now is the time to play your favourite sports the way sports were meant to be played, that is; Bearded vs. Non-Bearded, with the beardless team heavily handicapped (feel free to create your own handicaps for the beardless team or “losing team”). Popular choices include;
Arab or Genie false beard from Karnival Costumes - other cols available
- The losing team has fewer players.
- The losing team is made up entirely of children.
- The referees / umpires are all members of the bearded team (winning team).
- The losing team or selected members of the losing team are blind folded, bound and gagged.
So having whetted your imagination and sure that you need to get another party in before we all start with the Oktoberfest celebrations, we think that you should grab a false beard, say one in the style of an Abe Lincoln beard or perhaps something fuller like that sported by Sasha Baron Cohen in the film The Dictator and seek out your nearest World Beard Day celebration and join in the fun.  And if finding a group to tag along with is too difficult, why not get yourself a collection of fake beards and invite your mates around to your own World Beard Day party, who knows you may even tag it as a ‘bring a beard party’…. Enjoy the day!
