Australia Day Costumes and Accessories
Australia Day is celebrated on January 26 each year and commemorates the establishment of the first European settlement at Port Jackson, now part of Sydney, in 1788. It is an opportunity for Australians to come together to celebrate both their country and culture. There are reflections on the nation's past achievements and an exploration of ways to make the country even better in the future. All over Australia people have the day off and it's a major date for community gatherings, sporting events and organised celebrations. Around the world too, Australians gather to stage their own Australia Day celebrations and it's become another chance for the rest of us to join in the fun with our own themed fancy dress costume parties. And at Karnival Costumes we've both the Australian costumes, party decorations and themed Australian decorations so that you too can grab a tinny of the amber fluid and throw another chook on the barbie mate - and to think we all used to speak the same language..!
One of the most recognizable exports is the song WALTZING MATILDA. Once a jolly swagman camped by a billabong, under the shade of a coolibah tree, and he sang as he watched and waited till his billy boiled, who’ll come a Waltzing Matilda with me. Waltzing Matilda. Waltzing Matilda, who’ll come a Waltzing Matilda with me, and he sang as he watched and waited till his billy boiled, who’ll come a Waltzing Matilda with me. Thanks to Banjo Patterson who wrote the words and because of this simple ditty there will always be something to sing on Australia Day or at any other Aussie themed event or sports day.
