Mardi Gras is a super colourful carnival and is celebrated in the period leading upto Fat Tuesday, the day before Ash Wednesday. Famous for many things, music, atmosphere and colour it also has it's own special delicacy - the “king cake” which relates to the Biblical story of the three kings who bring gifts to Baby Jesus. It's a delicious blend of coffee cake and cinnamon roll and king cakes are usually iced in yellow, green and purple – the colours of Mardi Gras. Frequently packed with fruit fillings and decadent cream cheeses, hidden within each seasonal sweet cake there's a special surprise; a plastic king cake baby. Whoever finds it must either bring the next cake or throw a party, thus sparking an unending round of food and fun. Here at Karnival Costumes, we don't sell king cakes but we do have a range of tableware that will suit any Mardi Greas party theme perfectly and here's a link for you to find a King Cake Recipe.
